‘Causeways’ is an database of research experiments, developing new ways of working with sound which rely on visual and spatial cognition. The project undercuts gatekeeping music theory by embracing the position of an amateur as an advantage. Being unfettered by these pre-existing metrics allows new approaches to emerge.

Each image is a form of experimental notation, having been used as a musical reference or to generate musical data in some way. Presented as an exhibition, the images are grouped as chain reactions relating to the visual systems which re-appear throughout.
